Arizona teachers vote to walkout next Thursday
The Arizona Education Association and Arizona educators announced they will walkout following a vote Thursday night.
This is the first-ever statewide strike to demand increased school funding.
The walkout is expected this upcoming Thursday after the announcement was made outside of the AEA headquarters in Phoenix.
The grassroots group called Arizona Educators United said it is a historic vote with 57,000 votes cast and tallied tonight. 78 percent of school employees in the state said yes to the walkout.
The president of the Arizona Educators Association Joe Thomas said this is undeniably a mandate for action.
Governor Doug Ducey tweeted after the announcement stating his commitment to the pay raise he announced earlier last week.
