National Guard troops to start assigned missions at Yuma Sector Friday

National Guard troops were deployed to the Yuma Sector this week. We confirmed that troops will begin their assigned missions this Friday.

The first troops that will be on assignment with U.S. Customs and Border Protection will start their ground-based missions on Friday, according to Captain Macario Mora with the Arizona National Guard.

30 members arrived Thursday for support roles and another 34 are on their way. Arizona’s Southwest border will have close to 400 troops.

National Guardsmen are expected to be working on intelligence analysis supervising camera systems, aerial surveillance, and infrastructural maintenance said Meredith Mingledorff with U.S. Customs and Border Protection in Tucson.
