April is ‘Donate Life Awareness Month’

The month of April marks National Donate Life Awareness Month and Yuma Regional Medical Center is raising the Donate Life flag to bring attention.

Currently, there are 118,000 men, women, and children waiting for a life-saving organ with over 2300 living in Arizona. For Yuma residents, Rudy and Janice Wallace, their daughter has dealt with tough heart conditions since she was born.

But after several complications in her adulthood, she received an artificial heart for a few months until she received a heart transplant in May 2013.

‘Just before that, all of her organs were shutting down. Not only was she on an artificial heart but artificial breathing, so it was very traumatic,’ said Rudy. ‘You never know how many people to ‘thank’ because there are so many people who are involved in the process.’
