Four-vehicle collision results in one hospitalized

The Brawley Police Department responded to a major traffic collision involving four vehicles on Tuesday at around 6 p.m.

An investigation revealed an SUV driven by a 66-year-old Imperial County resident was traveling at a high rate of speed while northbound on SR 86, just north of the intersection of SR 86 and Legion Road. The vehicle began to swerve and collided with two separate vehicles also traveling northbound on SR 86, then lost control and overturned.

The vehicle came to rest after striking a third vehicle facing northbound, waiting for the stoplight at SR 86 and Wildcat Road.

The driver of the SUV was ejected and found pinned under a portion of the vehicle and was transported by Reach Air Medical Services to Desert Regional Medical Center with major injuries.

The incident is still under investigation as it involves driving under the influence. Anyone with witness information concerning this incident is asked to contact the Brawley Police Department Investigations Division at 760-351-7777 .
