Condom snorting challenge poses serious health risks

Move aside Tide Pods. There’s a new viral video challenge spreading across the internet.

It’s the “condom snorting challenge”. Teens are taking to social media to post videos of themselves putting a condom up their nose and inhaling it until they are able to grab it through their mouth.

It was a trending video challenge a few years ago, but the snorting challenge is making its comeback.

However, the challenge comes with potential health risks.

Dr. Patti Perry, M.D., a pediatrician for 30 years, said it can cause infections within the nostrils and nasal passage and create a blockage in your airways. Dr. Perry added that the condom can even travel to your organs.

“There have been reports of appendicitis from it, from it getting stuck further down by the appendix,” Dr. Perry said.

This trend comes just after the Tide Pod challenge took over social media in January. Poison centers reported 142 incidents in January due to the challenge, according to American Association of Poison Control Centers (AAPCC).
