YumaCats Scholarship Committee Chair Gay Thrower said that having the opportunity to interview the candidates face to face again this year was much more enjoyable for the committee. We missed having the Scholarship BBQ to honor the scholarship recipients but expect to return to that tradition next Spring. Thrower said she is so excited that these outstanding Yuma area students will again have the opportunity to experience the total UA experience including all the memories that still put smiles on YumaCats faces.
The scholarship committee has been awarding scholarships to local high school and transfer students for over 30 years. Thanks to local sponsors a total of $1,298,700 have been awarded to 793 of the brightest Yuma-area students. To see a full list of all the scholarships awarded by the YumaCats click here.
Each member of the committee spent more than 40 hours interviewing all candidates. The scholarship committee is comprised of Raquel Isaacson, Cori Rico, Ernesto Romero, Mary Jo Smith, Chase Thompson, Gay Thrower and Lucy Valencia.
