Firefighters respond to brush fire off of Drew Road

Imperial County Fire Department responded with 10 fire engines and nearly 30 fire personnel to a fire near Seeley. The fire burned 6 acres of river bottom.

Residents of nearby RV parks were not evacuated this time, as they were on Saturday, when a fire burned nearly 47 acres and threatened the parks with flying hot embers.

Battalion Chief Salvador Flores said the fires are under investigation, but there’s no evidence of arson at this time.

“Most likely, that it happened from a rekindled or hot ember that was still left on scene. With the thick vegetation that we have here, it’s very difficult to see or spot anything well within the brush. With the right conditions, with the heat that we had today, it dried up the vegetation to the point it took off and that’s all it needed,” Flores said.

Wednesday’s fire was expected to be completely contained by the even ing.
