Home Grown: Registration begins for Master Gardener class

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - In today's Home Grown, we dive into an upcoming Master Gardener class for all experience levels to learn about agriculture in Yuma.

For prospective gardeners, it can be difficult to keep crops healthy especially in the summer months.

That why the Master Gardener class through the University of Arizona Cooperative Extension is ready to help teach current and future farmers.

Program coordinator Janine Lane says participants will learn about planting, pesticides, plant diseases, maintenance and Yuma's seasonal calendar.

"Yuma has probably got one of the harshest climates in the United States, and so, you have to specifically plant at a certain time so that you have success," Lane said. "This is particularly true for vegetable gardens."

The program begins the end of July and will be taught in person this year at the Arizona Western College U of A campus.

Registration can be done by filling out an application.
