Lifesavers

Lifestream, is a non profit blood center, that’s been working with the El Centro Regional Medical Center, for the past seven years to help save lives. We spoke with Ashley Thompson, the blood mobile supervisor who said that, “every two seconds somebody needs blood. Somebody needs a blood transfusion. It can’t be manufactured, so there’s always a need for blood. The blood can only last on the shelf for forty two days. So there’s always a need to collect blood from the community. “

Ashley says, donating blood makes a difference in someone’s life. “For them, you get to save a life. It’s a good experience. You get to help the community. You get juice and cookies at the end. Just something good to do if that makes you feel good about yourself. You can help save up to three lives, three adults or eighth babies that you can really impact.”

While not everyone does it, it’s important that anyone who’s healthy enough, do their part and give the gift of life. “The most important part is actually doing it, because only five percent of the population actually do donate. So if you’re able and healthy enough to donate, it’s very important that you do. “

The next scheduled blood drive will be June 6th.
