83-year-old man dies following fatal crash
An 83-year-old man died following an off-road vehicle crash that happened Monday evening in the desert area east of Avenue 15E and South of Interstate 8.
The Yuma County Sheriff’s Office received reports of a missing person who was last seen driving an off-road vehicle in the desert area east of Avenue 15E on Monday at around 8:22 p.m.
The victim’s vehicle was soon located in the desert area at approximately 10:04 p.m.
An investigation revealed that the vehicle was traveling west on a small dirt trail at the top of a dry ravine. The vehicle appeared to run off the left south side of the trail and then rolled several times, ejecting the driver, and landing in the ravine.
The driver of the vehicle, an 83-year-old man, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The name is being withheld pending next of kin notification. The investigation is still ongoing and authorities said alcohol does not appear to have been a factor.
