Police activity reported by local elementary school

Police activity was reported by G.W. Carver Elementary School located at 1341 West 5th Street at around 2:13 p.m. Monday.

The Yuma Police Department received reports of a man with a gun threatening children and called to have the school put on lockdown.

Witnesses told authorities that the man was seen with a gun on his hip but did not go on school property and did not point a gun towards anyone.

Yuma Police said the man was located and identified at his home. Authorities said the man stated he did not have a gun. He was not armed when officers made contact.

Authorities said once it was determined there was no threat, the school lockdown was lifted.
