Student to stand trial for making criminal threats

An El Centro Superior Court judge ruled during today’s hearing that Karl Manaig, the Imperial High School student accused of making criminal threats, should stand trial.
Three witnesses testified during today’s hearing: a student and two officers.
The student said Manaig showed her a listing of different types of guns, the damage they did to the body, and response time by local police to an active shooter. She said Manaig threatened to shoot students in two different classrooms. She said he threatened to shoot her two “if you’re not fast enough”.
An Imperial Police Department detective and the local supervisor for the Homeland Security office also testified. They said Manaig claimed being bullied by other students, but they found no evidence of that. Instead, they found instances in which Manaig stabbed a student with a pencil, grabbed a girl aggressively by the waist, and threatened another student with a knife.
The detective said Manaig told him he was planning to shoot other students.

Police recovered 21 firearms from Manaig’s home when serving a search warrant. He was arrested on February 16th.
El Centro Superior Court Judge Donal B. Donnelly ruled there was enough evidence to make Karl Manaig stand trial on two counts of making criminal threats against students. Trial is set for April 4 th .
