Yuma police see burglaries decrease in neighborhoods

The number of property crimes for the month of February have gone down in Yuma compared to the previous month. The report came out on Thursday from the Yuma Police Department.

It shows that this month, police reported 13 residential burglaries and three business burglaries. There were also 23 vehicle burglaries reported.

Here are the results of property crimes in Yuma for the month of February:

– 35 percent decrease in residential burglaries

– 17.86 percent decrease in car burglaries

– 23.08 percent decrease in stolen cars

Officials say they did see a spike in business burglaries of 50 percent compared to the month of January.

YPD Public Information Officer Lori Franklin said for winter visitors who are planning to head out soon the more valuables you leave in your house the more you’re going to be vulnerable to being burglarized.

“If there’s three or four of you that all know each other go in together for a storage unit. If you know you’re coming back next year pitch in for a storage unit. Put your electronics, maybe computers, any high ticket items that you’re going to leave here put them in a storage unit. That way they’re out of the trailer or the home that you’re living in.”

YPD also included a map of Yuma with marked areas of the crimes.
