Somerton shooting suspect now in custody

Somerton Police Department has apprehended the suspect involved in the Somerton shooting that happened February 22nd.

Authorities were notified by Cocopah Tribal Police that they had recovered the vehicle wanted in connection with the attempted homicide investigation.

Yuma County Sheriff’s Office notified Somerton Police that Raymond Chairez Jr. had surrendered himself on March 1st at 4:28 p.m.

Chairez Jr. is facing the following charges: two counts of attempted first-degree murder, one count of drive-by shooting, and four counts of aggravated assault, according to YCSO.

On March 2nd, Chairez appeared before the South County Justice Court in San Luis, Ariz. where he returned to custody on a $100,000 bond.
