A local park is now home to some unique benches thanks to donors

Alegria Park in South County has received 9 benches. And, it's all thanks to area businesses and residents

SAN LUIS, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Not long ago, Alegria Park was nothing more than a retention basin. Located in a suburb of the City of San Luis, the closes park was miles away.

So, Maria Alegria took it upon herself to rally her neighbors along with Avenue F. The subdivision lies on the city's outskirts, roughly two miles away from the border city.

Alegria wants to give her neighbors and their children a place where they can enjoy themselves and stay out of trouble. Since taking on the project, the park has blossomed and is rarely empty.

On May 25, 2021, residents of the Avenue F subdivision, business owners, and city council members met to celebrate the park's latest edition.

Nine benches have been donated by area businesses and members of the community. The benches rest on the park's north end on both sides of the basketball court.

Mayor of San Luis Gerardo Sanchez told attendees how proud he was of those that worked to bring this project to life and stated that there are more additions on the horizon.
