Niland public safety is out with the old, in with the new

New facility to house fire and sheriff substations

NILAND, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - For years, firefighters in the city of Niland have been operating out of a mobile unit, while the main station continued to fall apart. In mid-2018, the County of Imperial began construction on a new public safety facility at 8071 Luxor Avenue.

Construction is officially complete; and a ground breaking, ribbon cutting ceremony has been scheduled for Friday, May 28, at 8 a.m. The new facility, housing both Imperial County Fire and Sheriff Substations, replaces the outdated facilities which previously serviced the Niland area. 

Scheduled to speak at the ceremony are Chairman of the Imperial County Board of Supervisors, Michael E. Kelley; District 4 Supervisor, Ryan Kelley; Imperial County Executive Officer, Tony Rouhotas; Imperial County Sheriff, Raymond Loera; and Imperial County Fire Chief, Alfredo Estrada.

Also included in the facility is a cooling center: a resource to provide relief from high summer temperatures for the community. The Niland Public Safety Facility was partially funded by the California Department of Housing and Community Development, through its Community Development Block Grant program and the County of Imperial.
