Night to Shine gives those who attended a night to remember

For many people Prom is that magical night you never forget.

Everyone gets all dressed up and dances the night away. The Tim Tebow Foundation works with churches all over the country to put together a prom night for those with special needs.

On Friday, Vertical Church in Yuma was selected by the Tm Tebow Foundation to host one of these prom nights.

It gave the opportunity for best friends like Isaac and Matthew the chance to enjoy a night of dancing, laughter and memories they will never forget.

“We were chosen to host this site,” said Pastor Jason of Vertical Church. “There are about 500 locations around the world that are having a Night to Shine at the same time we are tonight,” he said.

75 guests attended this event a long with nearly 200 volunteers.

The turnout was better than anyone could imagine.

“I think it’s a great idea for the church to put this organization together because for them to get all together and have fun for this night is pretty cool,” Kristen Willen, Matthew’s sister said.

Anyone 14-years-old and up were invited to come and celebrate each other’s beautiful differences.

At the end of the night everyone was crowned prom prince and princesses. There was even an honorary prom queen.

“My mom told me she was going to buy me a dress and I said why are you going to buy me a dress and she said because they want you to be in the prom and I went yay!” honorary prom queen, Paula Stevens said.

“My daughter is so excited because she has never been involved in a prom or anything like this so I think it’s great for the needy kids,” Paula’s mother, Bette said.

The prom was just like any other. People got to walk the red carpet, take pictures, sit in a limo, get boutonnieres pinned on them, their hair fixed, and shoes shined.

Julianna’s Cafe catered the night. There was a DJ and dance floor, karaoke room and game room with tons of fun activities for everyone to do.

One prom princess, Lupita Flores said she enjoyed all of the activities and socializing the most.

With so many shining stars together, it truly was a night to remember for all.
