Injured woman rescued by Border Patrol agents

El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents rescued a 22-year-old woman who had fallen off a cliff in a mountainous area in Ocotillo at around 9 p.m. Thursday night.

Agents quickly responded after the Remote Video Surveillance showed a 44-year-old man waving his hands in an attempt to draw the attention of anyone nearby. The man was walking on Highway 98 east of Ocotillo and stated that he and his girlfriend had fallen off a 20-foot cliff while trying to enter the United States illegally.

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) airlifted the 22-year-old woman to a nearby hospital who suffered a fractured spine.

Border Patrol took the man to the station for further processing, and the woman will remain in the hospital until she recovers.

Later, agents will process her for removal of the country.
