Woman sent to hospital following three-vehicle crash

The Somerton Cocopah Fire Department responded to County 14th Street and Somerton Avenue for a three-vehicle collision at 11:14 a.m Friday.

Fire crews arrived at the scene and found a red mid-sized car, white pickup truck and a lettuce harvest semi-truck, in the southwest corner of the intersection.

The sole occupant of the red car complained of pain to her chest and left knee. She stated that she had been wearing her seatbelt. The only occupants of the white pickup truck and lettuce harvest semi-truck were the drivers. Both male drivers stated that they did not suffer injuries and didn’t require transportation to Yuma Regional Medical Center.

The female driver of the red car was transported non-emergency traffic to YRMC for further observation.

According to the female driver of the red car, she was traveling southbound at 50 mph when the white pickup truck suddenly entered the intersection from the east side. She stated that she only had time to swerve, but was unable to avoid hitting the pickup truck on the front passenger side tire. Her car then struck the driver’s side tires and side of the lettuce harvest semi-truck, which was stopped heading east on the west side of County 14th Street. The white pickup stopped when it came into contact with the front of the lettuce harvest vehicle.

The Yuma County Sheriff’s Department is investigating this accident.
