YUHSD votes for a new district superintendent

Yuma Union High School District has voted for a new superintendent.
Gina M. Thompson who is currently the interim superintendent and acted as associate administrator for years will now take the reigns as district superintendent.

A position Toni Badone retired from back in July. The districts governing board voted on Wednesday to enter contract negotiations with Thompson for the position. When that occurs on February 14th, she will officially have the title. We asked Gina what it meant to her to be apart of the district for so many years.

“It’s been so rewarding in this district to be apart of the actual strategic process, working on campuses, working very specifically with goals and actions and now I know that my responsibility is not only the actions and the outcomes, but helping people develop their skills as well,” said Thompson.

While the the candidate search for the position was conducted by the ‘Arizona School Boards Association,’ people from all over the U.S were able to apply. Thompson having served as a teacher at Cibola High School and principal at Kofa, it’s a transition that has been years in the making.
