E. Coli outbreak cause not yet identified

The E. Coli outbreak has developed in 13 states and Arizona is not one of them, but with Yuma being the capital of the lettuce world, the question remains should we worry?

The thirteen states affected by E. Coli are California, New York, Connecticut, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Nebraska, New Hampshire, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Vermont and Washington State.

Five people in the U.S. have been hospitalized thus far and one has died, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In Canada, health authorities identified romaine lettuce as the source of the outbreak in Canada and have advised others to consider eating other types of leafy greens until further notice.

U.S. government officials are still investigating the outbreaks, but the CDC said in a statement they are still unsure if they should recommend avoiding any specific foods.

Consumer reports recommend avoiding lettuce altogether, but local expert, Paul Brierley says there is no need to just yet.
