In the tech savvy world performance and speed is key; so when millions of devices start to lose performance and speed shortly after being updated many call “foul”. The web is filled with customers and tech professionals accusing companies like Apple of using software updates to insure the device runs slower forcing customers to buy a newer version.

On Thursday, Apple announced that the allegations were true to an extent; according to the tech giant the company does use software updates to slow the devices down. But, according to their statement the sole purpose is to extend the life of the device by way of reducing it’s speed therefore reducing the demand on the battery.
