YUHSD Governing Board announces three Superintendent finalists

The Yuma Union High School District Governing Board announced three finalists for the district’s open Superintendent position during a special board meeting Tuesday.

The finalists are Juan M. Ceja, who is the Deputy Superintendent for Liberty Elementary School District in Buckeye, Ariz.; Gina M. Thompson, who is currently the Interim Superintendent for YUHSD; and Dr. P. William Van Hickman, who is the Superintendent for Columbus Municipal School District in Columbus, Miss.

Each candidate will take part in individual panel interviews as well as a community forum on Jan. 9th, 2018. The Board will make its final decision in the days following.

The Superintendent position opened when longtime Superintendent Toni Badone retired on Oct. 1st.

Thompson was named her interim replacement, beginning Oct. 2nd and has served in that role since.

The candidate search has been conducted by the Arizona School Boards Association.
