Man formally charged in Yuma bank robbery

The man suspected of robbing a National Bank of Arizona has been arraigned in Yuma County Justice Court Tuesday.

Richard Howard Weigelt III, 29, from Yuma, allegedly entered the bank on 12415 S. Avenue A at around 4:00 p.m. Thursday , December 7th.

According to Yuma police, Weigelt verbally stated that he had a gun with him and demanded money. No one was hurt.

After a teller handed over an undisclosed amount of cash, Weigelt allegedly walked out the front door and took off by foot.

Evidence of the robbery was also recovered at the scene. Weigelt was taken into custody who was found off 24th Street Thursday at 10:00 p.m.

This is not Weigelt’s first run-in with the law. He is currently facing two probation terms with the Yuma Municipal Court for a shoplifting offense.

He is formally charged with robbery, possession of heroin, and drug paraphernalia. Weigelt’s next court appearance is scheduled for December 18th, at 4:00 p.m.

Bond for the first case, alleged robbery, is set at $50,000. For the second case, drug allegations, he is facing a bond of $5,000.
