USBP: Man arrested with more than $85,000 worth of heroin

SALTON CITY, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - Border Patrol agents arrested a man after attempting to smuggle heroin through a checkpoint last Friday.

U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) says the incident happened at the Highway 86 immigration checkpoint. Agents sent a man driving a white 2001 Ford Mustang to secondary after a canine alerted to the vehicle.

While in secondary, they say an x-ray of the vehicle revealed anomalies in the engine compartment. Agents found a package stuffed inside the engine. The package tested positive for heroin.

USBP said the drugs weighed 6.9 pounds with a value of $85,630.

Agents turned the driver, a 22-year-old, and the drugs to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.
