Kofa Royal Dancers representing state at Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade
Next week Kofa High School’s “Royal Dancers” will depart for Hawaii to represent Arizona as part of the 2017 Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade.
The parade, which will be held December 7 in Waikiki, commemorates the 75th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor during World War II. The Royal Dancers are one of a few handpicked teams from around the country invited to perform. This is the second time that the Royal Dancers have been invited to perform in the event.
The Royal Dancers will have a sendoff performance Friday at 2 p.m. in the Kofa High School Auditorium.
In addition to the parade, dancers will also get a chance to perform at the USS Bowfin Memorial, learn traditional Tahitian dances, visit a macadamia nut farm, and stay at the same hotel as many Pearl Harbor Survivors, giving them an opportunity to meet some living war heroes and hear their stories.
When asked about what makes this group of dancers special, KHS Dance Instructor Jennifer Florey said, “There is a lot that makes these dancers special, but mostly their passion and commitment to dance and their team. Every single member of this team loves dance and would give up everything to pursue their passion. They all work together and support one another as a family.”
According to the Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade website, the theme of the Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade is “remembering our past and celebrating our future.” The purpose of the parade is to honor and pay respect to the Pearl Harbor survivors, our veterans, active duty military and their families.
