Boy, 10, dies after neck gets tangled in swing set chain

A family is in mourning after a 10-year-old boy died in a tragic accident on a neighborhood playground.

When officers responded to a Jacksonville, FL, park at 6:15 p.m. ET Friday, they found 10-year-old NaShon Green unresponsive.

NaShon, his mother and the boy’s three siblings – ages, 9, 6 and 4 – walked to the park to play earlier that day.

The boy’s mother looked away for a second while NaShon was standing on the swing, investigators say.

When his mother looked back, she saw the chains of the swing wrapped around NaShon’s neck. She took the 10-year-old down from the swing and called 911.

NaShon was taken to the hospital, where he died from his injuries.

A neighbor says he was around the corner when the incident happened.

“I could hear the screams of a woman and the police car screaming over uncontrollably,” he said.

The man says his heart goes out to the family.

“There is absolutely nothing like losing a child,” he said. “A mother trying to share quality time with a child, but one second, they’re here and the next second, they’re gone.”

Authorities say foul play is not suspected, and this was simply a tragic accident.
