FIRST ALERT ACTION DAY: Tracking extreme heat through tonight

Weather Authority/ KYMA

Today is a Weather Authority First Alert Action Day for the Desert Southwest as we have extreme heat and major heat risks.

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA-TV)- Hotter temperatures are here to kick off the week. Highs will be near or at the 110 mark, and trending almost 20 degrees above-average. Take a look at our forecasted highs this afternoon.

There's also an Extreme Heat WARNING for parts of the Desert Southwest, and it does include Yuma and Imperial Valley. This will stay in effect until 8 pm tonight for highs between 105-112.

This heat is dangerous, which is why a Weather Authority First Alert Action Day is in effect through tonight for the Desert Southwest due to the hot weather and risks for heat-related illnesses.

Remember to take ACTION and practice heat safety throughout the day.

There's an Air Quality Alert through 9 pm tonight for parts of Imperial County due high levels of ozone pollution.

Some heat will back off a little bit for the rest of the week, but we will still be trending above normal as a ridge of high pressure will keep us toasty and dry.

Triple-digit heat will stay in the forecast for the next few days, but I am tracking some upper 90s by the end of the week. More triple-digits will return by the weekend. It will be a calm, sunny, and hot week ahead.
