Children in need ask for simple things for Christmas

Some children in upstate New York are asking for basic things for Christmas, such as food, clothes, and shampoo.

A non-profit called Things of My Very Own works to close the gap on what social services can provide and what children need.

“Children that have either experienced or been impacted by extensive abuse and neglect or who are at risk of a child protection protective services intervention,” CEO and Founder Rayn Boncie told WNYT.

This year, the organization created tags asking what children wished for. They wished for simple things, such as a comb or new clothes. One child wished for a dad.

A 10-year-old boy wrote, “I want school snacks so I’m not the only one not eating during snack time at school.”
