Local RV Resort honors major milestone for resident

Cactus Garden RV park celebrated a milestone for one of their residence this afternoon and news 11 was their to partake in the festivities.

Yuma resident Ward Slover celebrated his 100th birthday today at a ceremony held at their RV resort. A room filled with family and friends, a nice crowd came out in honor of him. His five daughters that all traveled from Oregon were also in attendance. Ward and his wife Lois have vacationed in Yuma during the winter months for over 20 years, before becoming full time residents last year.

“We’ve got tremendous friends here and it’s just like coming home to family, when you come back. He was nervous, but now that it’s on, he is just thrilled to death and everybody is just so happy with him and congratulating him on his 100th birthday. Everybody thinks he’s only in his 80’s,” said Lois.

Ward had a career in farming along with being a volunteer sheriff deputy in Oregon for over 50 years. His advice to living a long life, “Work hard and when you play, play hard.”
