Officials warn the public of YCSO scam call

The Yuma Police Department is warning the public of a warrant scam call involving the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office that was reported a few weeks ago.

The caller will say they are from the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office and warn that there is a warrant out for your arrest.

The scammer will then tell the victim that they are required to pay via pre-paid cards or they will be arrested. The caller will also mention that you can purchase a “green dot” or similar pre-paid cards and will request the numbers off of these cards.

The caller will say that the card is invalid and that you will need to buy more cards.

Victims are losing thousands of dollars from this scam. The scammers will also leave a voice message saying they are from the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office.

The Yuma Police Department is informing that neither they nor the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office will:

-c all and request any sort of payment over the phone for warrants, fines, fees, bonds, etc.

-ask for credit card information over the phone

-call and give warrant information to the public over the phone and when in doubt

-ask the caller for a contact name and phone number for verification

If you get a call similar to this, please call the Yuma Police Department at (928) 783-4421 or the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office at (928) 783-4427 and verify the validity of the call.
