Topic of the Day: Russian investigation leads to charges

13 On Your Side wants to know your thoughts:

Earlier this month, a former adviser to the 2016 Trump Presidential Campaign pled guilty in connection to false testimony he provided investigators with the Federal Bureau of Investigation. George Papadopoulos, 30, an oil, gas and policy consultant pled guilty to the charges and provided authorities with a detailed account of his role during the campaign.

According to documents Papadopoulos came to work for the Trump Campaign after working on the Ben Carson Campaign. According to his testimony he frequently maintained contact with Russians who according to him had “dirt” on Hillary Clinton in the form of several incriminating emails. According to the FBI, Papadopoulos made several attempts to arrange meetings between his Russian contacts and then Presidential Candidate Donald Trump.

According to the reports, said meetings never took place and in one email he was instructed to set the meetings up with someone at a “lower level”. After his plea, two other former advisers to the Trump Campaign have been indicted; though they’re being investigated for crimes that happened prior to the working on the campaign. Both Paul Manafort and Rick Gates have pled not guilty to all charges.
