Three suspects tied to local murder back in court

The prosecution asked a judge for additional time to go through more information in the murder case of Juan Pablo Torres and two other suspects, tied to the murder of a young man in Yuma.

Presiding Judge Stephen Rouff agreed with Prosecutor James Eustace and granted six more weeks. The three suspects in court Tuesday were Torres, 21, along with two suspects that are not being identified because they were juveniles at the time of the crime.

They are all being tried as adults now, and facing a number of charges including 1st-degree murder, attempted 2nd-degree murder, burglary and kidnapping tied to the killing of 20-year-old Leondre Richards.

The murder happened in July, in the 1600 Block of W. 8th St. That’s where officers located two victims with gunshot wounds.

Richards was pronounced dead at the scene. His mother was taken to Yuma Regional Medical Center and lated flown to Phoenix.

Rouff said the next court appearance for the suspects is December 15 at 8:30 a.m. for a final management conference.
