Topic of the Day: Dove accused of dirty ad

It’s a bit of deja vu for the Dove Company as one of their ads has yet again left people confused and upset. This time, it was a short videos placed on the company’s Facebook page; the video shows a black woman taking off her shirt to reveal a white woman. That woman takes her shirt off to reveal a brunette. Some are calling the ad racist, others confusing.

Many patrons took to social media to attack Dove, calling on all women to boycott the company by refusing to buy their products. Dove has since pulled the add and have released an apology. This isn’t Dove’s first marketing faux-pas; in 2011 they released an add with three women of different shades of skin, listing the darker one as the ‘before’ and the lighter skin as ‘after’.
