YPD: Armed robbery suspect also mugged Target
The Yuma Police Department said Wednesday’s armed robbery suspect also commited another armed robbery at Target.
YPD said that incident happened about 20 minutes after the armed robbery at Burlington Coat Factory.
YPD said an officer at the Yuma Palms Regional Center was able to match the license plate to that of the first armed robbery, but when they tried to stop the suspect they took off.
The first armed robbery happened at Burlington Coat Factory at around 3:00 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.
Officers said the suspect fled the scene in a white Pontiac Bonneville, last seen heading towards 4th Avenue.
A YPD officer spotted the white Pontiac crossing the Ocean to Ocean Bridge into California and the officer notified Quechan Police Department and Imperial County Sheriff’s Office about the car entering California.
The suspect collided with a parked vehicle in the 100 block of South Main Street leading the suspect to flee on foot.
The suspect, 23-year-old Kiko Luna, was found and taken into custody. Luna will be booked on multiple charges. There were no reported injuries.
Luna appeared in court Thursday and is facing nine charges, including armed robbery, reckless driving and failure to remain at the scene of an accident. Luna’s bond is posted at $75,000. He is to appear back in court on October 9th, at 1 p.m. to hear his formal charges.
