Groundbreaking ceremony held for Plank Park
Leaders from the city of El Centro held a groundbreaking ceremony this morning for a future park that is to be completed sometime in 2018.
Plank Park is located on the corner of Plank Drive and Wensley Avenue and will feature playground equipment, rolling hills, trees, lighting, benches and decomposed granite paths.
This project is being funded by the city’s park impact fees with a cost of $550,000 for the first phase. Phase one is expected to be completed in early 2018 and today city officials gathered to turn some dirt and start work on this new park.
“This is going to be an awesome park, we had over twenty people from this community participate in the design of this project, so this park is not a city park, this is actually your park when it comes to the design. We are a rural community and we are what they call park poor when it comes to our community but the city of El Centro along with the county is changing that,” said Alex Cardenas, Mayor of the City of El Centro.
The park will sit at 3.6 acres after phase one, no word yet on how big the park will be once it’s complete.
