UPDATE:

Brawley police received a call about a suspicious package in a parking lot across from Pioneers Memorial Hospital Monday afternoon.

Nearby offices were quickly evacuated and a bomb squad was called to the area.

“Approximately one o’clock we received a call of a suspicious package attached to a vehicle in the parking lot of 751 west legion road,” said Brett Houser, Commander with the Brawley Police Department.

Officers quickly responded to the medical center and decided to evacuate the area and notify the bomb squad.

“The vehicle in which the package was attached is still located inside the parking lot, nothing’s been moved from the parking lot,” added Houser.

The exact description of the vehicle was not given, but the owner of the vehicle was notified and has been participating with police.

Bomb squad officials were conducting x-rays on vehicles as a part of protocol measures and a K-9 unit was there in assistance. All patients and caregivers were evacuated to pioneers memorial hospital as a precaution.

“If you see something, say something. We appreciate the immediate call that someone made about a suspicious package. Its efforts like that that keep the public safe,” explained Houser.

UPDATE:

Shortly after the bomb threat was reported, police officials declared the threat unsubstantiated.
