Ground and air tracking leads Border Patrol to major meth bush south of Dateland
Agents seize more than 100 pounds of dangerous drug
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Wellton Border Patrol agents on Tuesday kept a huge haul of drugs from hitting the streets.
Agents say it started around 9:30 that morning, when they spotted a group of migrants moving through the desert south of Dateland. They moved in on the group in the Mohawk Valley, but the migrants tried to escape.
A Yuma Air Branch agent caught sight of the group from the air, tracked the men, then guided colleagues on the ground to their location.
Agents say all six men were wearing backpacks filled with methamphetamine. Border Patrol says the drugs weigh a total of 109 pounds and have a street value of $196,000.
