7.1 Magnitude Earthquake rattles central Mexico

Another earthquake to rock Mexico City happened this afternoon. A 7.1 Earthquake to be exact. Several are confirmed dead and some say the damage is even worse than the 8.0 Quake that hit the country just eleven days ago.

Today’s earthquake comes on the eve of one of the biggest earthquakes to ever hit Mexico. On this day, 32 years ago, a magnitude-8.0 Earthquake hit on September 19th, 1985, killing an estimated 9,500 people in and around Mexico City. As for today people are obviously reeling from the effects of the 7.1 magnitude earthquake that happened this afternoon. Todays natural disaster toppled buildings, sent rescue workers digging through rubble and knocked out power for millions. Amidst the chaos, Juan Magana, a man who was vacationing in Mexico City say luckily the damage to his hotel wasn’t severe, but he did witness several people in distress.

“Some damage inside of the hotel, very minimal, but there is damage for sure. Shortly after the earthquake, we did see a couple people faint. It took twenty minutes for her to come back, it took firefighters a good, im not lying, a good half and hour to get to her,” said Magana.

At last check over 200 people have been reported dead. That’s up from the 90 people that died from the quake in Mexico that happened just eleven days ago. The President of Mexico, Enrique Peña Nieto tweeted that he has ordered the evacuation of hospitals that have suffered damage. He also ordered the transfer of patients to other medical units.
