San Luis Fire adds new ambulances to fleet

The San Luis Fire Department is adding two brand new ambulances to their fleet. These ambulances have been upgraded with high tech additions that help better serve the community.

San Luis City Council approved the purchase of two ambulances after the state of Arizona approved the department with a Certificate of Necessity – in which it’s assured that departments are equipped with adequate emergency medical services.

For the longest time, San Luis Fire has been operating and serving up to nearly 32,000 people with only one ambulance.

The total cost of the ambulances is around $400,000, as they are equipped with high-tech additions. The ambulances include i-Pads for EMT’s to use to precisely fill out patient care forms and allows them to be shared with other agencies. They also include a gadget that can change stop lights, helpiung cross traffic issues. In the back of the ambulance is a new electric gurney that will help transport patients safely and save the backs of EMT’s responding.

San Luis Fire paramedic firefighter and Public Information Officer, Luis Cebreros, said they are adding the two ambulances to be at the top of their fleet, and hope they last longer. Transport and respond times won’t be affected and the new ambulances will have more of a chance to stay on the road instead the shop.

“The new ambulances will help with the transport, the more comfortable, especially here in our hot weather, air conditioning is very crucial for our patients and and our drivers of course but especially our patients. The transport is the same, the distance to the hospital is still the same for us. It’s just that these ambulances have more of a chance to stay on the road instead of being in the shop”

With an increase of demand of service, San Luis Fire Department is also looking to hire 6 new hires to join the team of responders.
