DOJ prosecutors believe Arpaio conviction should be vacated
Prosecutors from the Department of Justice agreed that former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio should have his conviction vacated on Monday.
After President Donald Trump granted Arpaio a pardon, DOJ attorneys said in a legal filing that, “A pardon issued before entry of final judgment moots a criminal case because the defendant will face no consequences that result from the guilty verdict. Accordingly, the government agrees that the Court should vacate all orders and dismiss the case as moot.”
Arpaio was officially granted a presidential pardon by President Trump on Aug. 25th who pointed out his, “selfless public service.”
Arpaio was facing up to six months in prison after being convicted of criminal contempt by a federal judge in Arizona.
