President Trump in Yuma

Over 1,000 Yuma area residents lined up the streets and parking areas near MCAS to watch President Trump’s arrival and departure.

The Yuma Police Department reported one incident that resulted in one person being cited and released.

There were also a few heat-related issues and the Yuma Fire Department provided medical assistance to these individuals in a timely manner.

YPD had to remind those who gathered to back away from the roadway for their safety a few times and they did with no hesitation.

“Even though different political viewpoints were present, the Yuma community once again adhered to a model of expressing their opinions and views in a non-violent and respectful manner….. we thank you,” Chief John Lekan said.

3:15 p.m. – President Trump boards Air Force One to depart for his rally being held in Phoenix.

2:46 p.m. – President Donald Trump is greeting Marines at MCAS Yuma as he is preparing to depart to Phoenix.

2:37 p.m. – President Trump met with Yuma Sector Border Patrol agents who gave him a look at their Air Patrol Hanger. Customs and Border Patrol Protection demonstrated the technology they use to secure Yuma’s border. The private demonstration ensures Yuma’s security tactics are held safe.

2:30 p.m. – Several people of Yuma were awaiting President Trump to greet and welcome him to the city. Here are the names:

1:34 p.m. – Hundreds of people are gathering at the Yuma County Fairgrounds to watch the Air Force One arrive at MCAS in Yuma.

Protesters and supporters of the President are currently shoulder-to-shoulder waiting for Trump’s arrival at 2:10 p.m.

12:09 p.m. – President Trump will meet U.S. Customs and Border Protection personnel and the state-of-the-art equipment used to secure our border. He will also receive a briefing on Department of Homeland Security on the southern border to prevent illegal entry into the country.

Illegal border crossings in the Yuma Sector have declined by 70 percent from 2006 when it built more than 50 miles of border wall.

To jump start the construction of the border wall Trump proposed, Trump ordered DHS to use $20 million of unspent appropriations in its account for border security, fencing, and infrastructure.

Trump worked with Congress to pass border wall funding and the House of Representatives passed $1.6 billion to fund 28 miles of new border wall and 46 miles of new and secondary fencing.

President Trump has implemented tough immigration policies that have reduced illegal border crossings over the southwest border by 47 percent compared to the same period last year.

President Trump is also working with Congress to pass new laws to secure the border, strengthen immigration enforcement, and increase penalties.

9:29 a.m. – The White House has confirmed that President Trump will be meeting with Border Patrol officials in Yuma before heading to Phoenix.

Trump will be taking a look at border patrol equipment and meeting with Marines at Marine Corps Air Station Yuma.

He is expected to head to U.S. Border Patrol Yuma Sector shortly after he arrived at MCAS Yuma. We are expecting him to arrive shortly before 2 p.m.

Trump will be taking a look at how border security is handled in our area. He will also take a look at what Border Patrol and Customs and Border Protection needs to keep us safe at the border.
