It’s a parent’s worst nightmare, checking on their child only to find them dead in their room; even worse, finding them hanging. That’s the reality for a Cincinnati family who found eight year old Gabriel Taye dead as a result of suicide. Gabriel is described as a happy child, always eager to learn and make new friends. So his death has left many asking the question, why?

Soon after Gabriel’s death the family was informed of a video in the possession of the Cincinnati Police Department. The 24-minute video recorded by one of the Carson Elementary School security cameras shows Taye being struck and knocked unconsious. The video shows Gabriel’s body laying on a bathroom floor as students mock him and callously walk around.

The video also showed what appeared to be a physical education teacher in an adjacent room. When the school notified his parents they reported that Gabriel had fainted; two days later the third grader hung himself. The family is now suing the school district for failing to protect Gabriel and many students like him from open bullying. Since the incident the school’s assistant principal has left the school, the district has transferred the principal and the district’s superintendant has retired.
