Yuma County announces 2020 Employee of the Year

Board of Supervisor also names Court Employee of the Year, and awards Safety Excellence Award

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The Yuma County Board of Supervisors joined with the County Administrator Monday to name the 2020 County Employee of the Year.

County leaders also recognized the Court Employee of the Year, and presented the annual Safety Excellence Award.

This year's recipients include:

Jessica Rodriguez: 2020 Yuma County Employee of the Year

Jessica Rodriguez is the Deputy Director of Human Resources. She's played a variety of roles in the department since joining the County more than 12-years ago. During the pandemic, Jessica has provided support and assistance to elected leaders, department heads, and the more than 500 county employees, in addition to handling her usual duties. Jessica received a commemorative plague and a $1,000 prize in addition to the honor.

Erin Ballos: 2020 Court Employee of the Year

Erin Ballos is a Conciliation Court Mediator in Yuma County's Superior Court. Erin provides support to families whose domestic issues have reached the courts. In her more than two decades of service, she's been a probation officer, a drug court coordinator, and a substance abuse counselor. In addition to her usual duties, Erin also works with the Mental Health and Veterans Treatment Courts. In fact, she played a key role in making the Veteran's Treatment Court a reality. The County awarded Erin a plague and a $1,000 prize.

Miguel Parra: 2020 Safety Excellence Award winner

Miguel Para is a maintenance supervisor with the County's facilities management department. Miguel has served Yuma County for more than 13-years. County leaders say he has always gone above and beyond when it comes to safety. Early on in the coronavirus pandemic, Miguel and his team were tasked with building and installing protective windows for all public lobbies and counters in County facilities. They got the job done on a tight schedule, and their work is still keeping the employees and the public safe. Miguel was awarded a plague, and a $250 prize.
