El Centro agents save migrant lost in the wilderness
Rescues by sector tops 100 since beginning of fiscal year
OCOTILLO, Calif (KYMA, KECY) - U.S. Border Patrol agents from El Centro Sector this weekend saved another undocumented migrant who'd become lost in the Jacumba Wilderness area.
The Border Patrol got the call around 1:30 Sunday morning. Police dispatchers reported receiving a 9-1-1 call from a migrant saying his traveling party had abandoned him.
Agents reached the man on his cell phone, determined he was in a mountainous region about 27-miles west of Calexico, and began their search. Less than two-hours later, just after three in the morning, they found him. He was uninjured and needed no medical attention.
Border Patrol conducted a background check on the migrant, and released him back into Mexico.
Since the beginning of the fiscal year, in October, El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents have rescued 102 people who were either lost, or in distress.
