First Day of School:Preparing College for Kinder

The “first day of school” entering Kindergarten is one of those days you never forget.

This morning at Desert View Academy 168 kindergartners officially started their academic journey by walking into their classrooms. Kindergarten is known to be everyone’s favorite grade level and the most fun with nap times and colorful projects but it’s actually the start to get them ready for college. Veronica Gonzalez who teaches kindergarten says with higher reading and writing levels and technology being taught at an early age, these 5 and 6-year-olds are smarter than you think.

“We work with Arizona standards and we equip our students for life. When they get out of kindergarten, a lot of them are reading and writing their own stories and they’re just getting ready to be out there in the “real world”. When we say we’re preparing our students for college they know that and by the end of the school year if you ask them they know they will go to college at the end of the year.”
