Children’s future placed in hands of auto makers

It’s a problem that his been around for decades and each year children die because of it. The issue, children being forgotten in the backseat of a car and left to fend for themselves. According to the latest stats since 1998, 726 children have died as a result of being left inside a hot car. In July along there were eleven deaths, two of which were in Arizona.
Now, legislators are turning to automakers to solve the problem; they’re asking for newer cars to be equipped with technology that remind parents and caregivers that a child is in the backseat. Presently, some auto manufacturers offer the option in some of their vehicles and there are after market devices out there as well, but aren’t being used.
Kids in Cars is a non-profit that focuses on improving safety for children in cars and according to them the problem can be solved with a few easy steps. They suggest that drivers carry a stuffed animal in the front to remind them that a child is in the back, place your purse, wallet or cell phone in the back and always remember to “Look before you lock”.
