Somerton attempted homicide suspects arrested

Two suspects have been arrested for allegedly shooting a victim on Wednesday afternoon.

Anthony C. Serrano, 19, of Somerton, AZ, and Martin S. Guzman, 19, of Somerton, AZ, were both involved in the incident on the 600 block of E. Orchid Street, according to the Somerton Police Department.

According to Somerton police, “members of the Somerton Police Department, Yuma Police Department, Yuma County Sheriff’s Office, GIITEM, ATF, San Luis Police, and Border Patrol executed a search warrant at 3199 W. 17 ¾ Street in Somerton.”

Serrano and Guzman are currently being detained at the Yuma County Detention Center where they have been booked on preliminary charges of Attempted 1st Degree Murder, Aggravated Assault, Endangerment, and 1st Degree Burglary.

A release from the police department says, ” Somerton Police Chief Jeff Cavender would like to commend the actions of several members of the Somerton Police Department, as well as the multiple agencies that provided invaluable assistance during this investigation. Those agencies included: Yuma Police Department, Yuma County Sheriff’s Office, GIITEM , ATF, San Luis Police Department, Border Patrol, and the Cocopah / Somerton Fire Department. The exceptional teamwork by these officers and agencies lead to the suspects in this case being identified in less than 24 hours of the crime and in-custody in less than 36 hours from the time of the Attempted Homicide.”
