Topic of the Day: Privacy vs Security

13 On Your Side wants to know your thoughts:

If you’ve ever watched NCIS or just about any other crime drama, you’ve seen just how vital cell phone information is to an investigation. Up until now police have had to obtain a search warrant in order to get a suspects cell phone records which includes who they’ve been calling and most importantly. where they’ve been.

The U.S. Supreme Court is set to hear arguments on whether or not to make the information accessible to police without a search warrant. Meaning police can monitor cell phone users without showing cause. According to lower courts cell phone users give up their privacy rights when they sign up for cell service; providers collect users information and keep records for billing purposes.
