Convicted sex offender caught trying to enter the U.S.
A previously deported and convicted sex offender was arrested by U.S. Border Patrol agents after being caught coming into the country illegally.
Agents say the 30-year-old Mexican man was seen running north from the U.S.-Mexico border fence near downtown.
The man was approached by agents who figured out he was in the country illegally.
Agents ran a background check on the man which revealed his criminal record.
The man was convicted and sentenced to three years in prison in California for lewd and lascivious acts with a child.
“Protecting our nation’s borders and keeping our communities safe is often one in the same,” said Assistant Chief Patrol Agent David S. Kim, “Arrests like these send a clear message that we will keep our communities safe and will prosecute aliens who have committed felonies in the United States.”
El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents have arrested eight convicted sex offenders trying to enter the U.S. illegally after removal.
